Most people at some point in their lives will suffer headaches, which are a common cause of pain and discomfort.

A ‘headache’ describes any pain that involves the head, face or neck area, and frequently, will involve all three areas at once.

The intensity of a headache can range from a dull uncomfortable ache to a raging pain that causes vomiting and complete debilitation for its duration. They can also be a rare event for some, and for other unfortunate folk, a regular unwelcome visitor. Headaches can be caused by muscular tension, infections, sinus, various medications, allergic reactions, tiredness, misalignments of bones and muscles, whiplash injuries, chemical exposure, hormonal imbalance, an over-worked liver, lack of oxygen, caffeine, and a host of other things.

Bowen therapy can address many of the causes of headaches.

Ignorance is not bliss

Headaches that tend to stay, or keep recurring, should be investigated, to rule out any serious health risk. It’s not wise, or brave, to ‘put up with it’ – it’s much smarter to find out what’s causing the pain, and get it fixed.

In a Bowen therapy appointment, questions will be asked to establish what could be causing your headaches, and a treatment schedule will be planned to bring you freedom from pain.

It’s the simple things in life…

Many times, headaches seem to be caused mysteriously, and can evade identification by doctors, therapists and even specialists. Frequently, however, even seemingly simple things, or events long ago, can lead to the pain of regular headaches for many.

Bowen therapy aligns and straightens the body from top to toe, and as a result, many sufferers of mysterious headaches have been set free from the pain of distressing headaches. Effective and simple exercises can be demonstrated and recommended that will keep bodies straight and strong.

Neck muscle anatomy

It’s the neck that turns the head…

The average adult human head weighs approximately 4.5 to 5 kilograms! Balanced perfectly on the atlas bone, (the first cervical bone at the back of your neck) it consists of 22 cranial and facial bones.

Our neck is designed to allow amazing flexibility of our head, pain-free. The many muscles of the head and neck also enable chewing, speaking, and a whole range of facial expressions. Even the upper portions of our digestive and respiratory tracts are housed within hollow cavities of the skull.

When something happens to misalign any of the complex muscular relationships in the head and the neck, which can be as simple as biting hard on a piece of bone, hitting your head, or even texting  often on your phone, a cascade of effects can result, frequently leading to headaches.

See your Bowen therapist for realignment of muscles and bones, release and relaxation of tension.
